Can someone recommend a tablescape for a romantic dinner for two that is something other than the two tapers and some flowers?

How romantic? Cause if it's real romantic, I say throw together a basket/bucket of chocolate suace and paint brushes and fruits and use that as a centerpiece. Makes wanting to get to the desert more important.

I would go with a centerpiece made of candles in different colors and shapes, if possible using as basement a mirror that reflects their own burning.

Flowers could be wrapping this arrangement instad of placing them in a vase.

That sounds nice, Mastermind. I may have to give that one a try.

Simple & elegant: Use one large glass bowl OR several stemmed glasses of different sizes and heights. Fill with water (about 3/4 full) then place floating candles and flowers, with stems cut off so they, too, will float. An added touch to finish it off - weave a silk ivy garland or other green garland between glasses or around base of large container.

I like that too, Sara. The combination of green, color from the flowers, the water and the candlelight sounds like something that would be very inviting.

Seems like candles are the go. I have to agree with that too. I can see why you don't want the tapers though - they are a bit old hat. I like having just three candles - the thicker type - together on a plate with pebbles or colored beads.
