I have a retro theme going in my dining area. Complete with statehood tablecloth, diner salt and pepper shakers, and statehood plates hanging on the wall. I also have red vinyl chairs with a retro chrome and formica like table top.

I love it!

That sounds very interesting, Melizzy. Am I correct in assuming that the 40's theme would be compromised if you served low carb, organic or low fat dishes?

Yep! Only things full of fat and lard need apply for my kitchen! I even have my mother's 40 year old cookbook sitting next to the table! And let me tell you, there are NO low fat foods in there.

I grew up on a mixed farm and helped with the butchering a few times.

I remember how they rendered the pork fat to make lard to use for shortening. It's amazing, compared to today's dedication to low fat.

My grandfather used to have an old chrome and formica table, and it was beautiful! You should put up some photos for us.

I'll do that! I really am quite proud of my dining area. I am thinking about putting down black and white checkerboard vinyl. We'll see.
