Yep, it is advertised on television a lot. I received one for Christmas this past year. It is great for whipping up hummus, sorbet, making salsas, smoothies, refried beans, chopping onions and bell peppers, etc. I have a lot of fun with it.

Oops, it's a little late for your friend's birthday, but the American Diabetes Association has an excellent recipe collection online that might be useful anytime of the year
