Independence Day is fast approaching for US residents. Anyone have something special planned for that day? With my circle of friends, the name of the game is barbeque and lots of it, with plenty of baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, cut vegetables, etc.
I live in Australia so don't have any specific suggestions but we love barbeques here. We mostly cook steak, sausages, fish, prawns and so on on the bbq. As well as fried onions and kebabs.
I will be heading to the states on July 2 and will be in New York for the fourth of July so I am pretty excited about it. This will be my first visit to the US.
If you're going to be in NYC for 4th of July, don't miss the spectacular FIREWORKS display sponsored by Macy's. Any unobstructed view from 23rd-42nd St along the East River would be perfect to view these.
Hope you enjoy your visit - and ALL of the terrific food this city has to offer!!
I'm guessing we'll do what we always do - grill out steaks, chicken breasts, and ribs. Then we'll have the requisite corn on the cob, potato salad, tossed salad, baked beans, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Makes me hungry just thinking about it.
Directions:
Peel and core onions. Insert 1 beef bouillon cube into onion, and add 1 Tbsp. butter in center. Wrap in heavy duty or doubled aluminum foil. Allow small opening to vent. Grill approximately 30 minutes or until tender.
I absolutely LOVE grilling. And the social aspect of it is fabulous, so long as the weather holds up!
Jenyfari have an AMAZING trip to NYC... what a great weekend to make the trip!
Someone mentioned "corn"... do you all put your corn on the grill? THere's a post on it on the ChefClub blog you may want to take a look at if you haven't tried it before. I absolutely LOVE corn on the grill. Now and then I'll toss something on the grill I've never even heard of grilling before just for the heck of it... improvisation is king (or queen for you ladies)!
Want something different : Pull shuck back, season and wrap each ear with bacon, pull shuck back, wrap with foil(some people don't) and cook till done.
Discard(or find another use for bacon)and serve with butter, garlic butter is my favorite.
