Yes, you read that right. I set the stove on fire by just heating the oven.

Uh...that doesn't sound good. Is everything okay?

The worst I've done is accidentally set a towel on a hot electric stovetop burner, and sent the thing up in smoke.

Just curious, was it an electric oven or a gas oven? I've used gas for many years and have never set it on fire yet. Were you able to find out why the unit caught on fire?

I'm trying to imagine how that would happen... is it gas that caused an
explosion or something? I hope everything's better today... did you have
to buy a new stove?

Yes, it was an I-D-10-T error. Or commonly known as IDIOT. Back at X-Mas (yes, all those months ago) I tossed a mini bun into the oven as I had people coming over and one left. I turned the bake thing on to do brownies. And boy did my ELECTRIC oven light up. Sigh. I tossed an entire box of Baking Soda all over that puppy.

LOL bless your heart! Well, at least you were able to bring things under control with the baking soda. I'm glad you and no one else was hurt.

It's great to hear that you had the presence of mind to do that! I may have stood there trying to process what the hey was going on before I grabbed for baking soda or an extinguisher. Hehe Okay, maybe not, but I'm glad you got it under control so easily.

I've had a fire mishap when I refilled a hot fondue fuel container, lit it and then had it expand and run down the sides of the container, on fire.

Also, my wife used to store wrapped bread in the oven. Once we turned it on without checking the oven and melted the plastic bag over some rolls.
